A Father and Son Team

I grew up doing stone masonry with my dad (Michael Miller). My earliest memory is working on a block house outside of Leavenworth. I remember taking mortar, rolling it into little balls, and placing them in a line across a row of blocks. At the end of the day, my dad gave me a couple of bucks, and I got a candy bar on the way home. That was the start of my career as a mason.

There is something special about carrying on the work of a parent. Not only is it a chance for knowledge and tradition to be passed on to future generations, but it creates an unspoken respect and bond, almost like a secret that only the two of you share.

If you saw my dad and me working together, the first thing you would notice is that we have a good time. The music is always loud, and we laugh a lot. We laugh at each other, our flimsy tools, and sometimes each other's stone selection. This is one of the greatest gifts of running your own business; you get to decide what is most valuable. Shared experiences, good relationships, laughter, and a tired body after a hard day's work have always been more valuable to me than anything else.

My dad and I always started the morning slow, taking our time at Plain Hardware while picking up supplies. We'd talk with everyone behind the counter, grab a coffee, and think through the day's plan. Once we finally made it to the jobsite, the music got loud and we went to work. We worked as long as the job required, even if that meant finishing a fireplace at midnight. Along the way, we built a life that wasn't too rushed, simply enjoying the fact that we were doing something we loved together.

We started Miller Stoneworks in 2008 and have built some incredible projects with stone over the years. As proud as I am of the work we've completed, I'm even more happy with the relationships we've built with our clients. People have always mattered more than the product, and the respect and trust you earn is worth far more than the check you cash at the end of a project.

In 2026, Miller Stoneworks entered an exciting new chapter. With my dad retired, and after working on my own for several years, the size and scope of upcoming projects created the opportunity to expand the team. The tradition of generational masonry continues with the addition of Brandon and his two sons, Landon and Gaige, along with Braden. Today, Miller Stoneworks is a team of five masons, ready to take on projects of any size, and I'm excited for what the future holds.
